About the Farm What We Grow What We Make Where to Find Us

Fresh Cut Flowers

We can’t imagine a farm without flowers! All the different colors, shapes and fragrances are amazing, and every year we look forward to bringing you gorgeous bouquets of blooms to brighten your day. The flowers also provide food for our honeybees, as well as the local beneficial insect population, which are crucial to the success of all of our plants.

BALL JAR BOUQUETS

Most of our fresh cut flowers make their way into our popular Ball Jar Bouquets. Arranged by our Head Farm Girl Teresa, these delightful little bouquets are as fresh as can be and will last out most of the week with proper care, if not longer. Just keep the water in the jar filled, and change it out completely with fresh water every few days. Cut flower food is great if you have it, but if not a wee bit of lemon lime soda and a tiny splash of bleach will provide the sugar, citric acid and anti-bacteria cocktail that cut flowers like. Trim the stems a bit when you change out the water, and discard any dead or dying stems at that time.

Don’t forget to bring your jar back to one of our market booths for a 25 cent deposit, or apply it to your next bouquet- these colorful treats can become a weekly addiction. We were able to recycle almost nine dozen jars last season, which was great! ( The Manzanita Farmer’s Market wins the prize for most jars recycled, so come on Astoria and Cannon Beach, catch up!)

Be sure to get to the market early for the best choice of bouquets, they sell out fast.

EDIBLE BOUQUETS

The Cannon Beach Farmer’s Market is a delightful place to buy all things locally grown and edible- but ONLY things that are edible. Cut flowers are only allowed as a food crop, and so our bouquets and flower bundles at this market will be comprised only of plants that can be safely consumed by humans. This is actually a pretty good selection of flowers, so stop by for a bouquet of herbs and blooms to decorate your next salad with. For our Cannon Beach customers who don’t want to eat their bouquet, we will be offering a Flower Bouquet Subscription Service with a Cannon Beach pick up point in 2009- please contact us for more details.

SWEET PEA BUNDLES

Sweet peas love it here on the Oregon coast, and we grow lots of them- it is impossible to limit ourselves to just one or two colors. We seek our unusual and beautiful varieties, focusing on ones that are the most fragrant, because the nostalgic scent is really the best part of sweet peas. These little beauties should last for several days at least if you keep them in fresh water and out of direct sunlight. They sell out fast, so come early for the best color choices.

FRESH CUT LAVENDER

In July, the lavender explodes into bloom, and it’s all we can do to keep up with the harvest. We dry some for wreaths or sachets, or use it fresh for our lavender wands, but we save a lot to sell as fresh bundles for those of you who want to enjoy the scent of fresh cut lavender at home. Enjoy your lavender as a fresh bouquet, and then dry it to use in your own craft projects.

FRESH CUT FLOWER BUNCHES

As we grow and expand, we are able to harvest more flowers each year, and are now able to start offering bunches of single type flowers- dahlias, sunflowers and more, for you to arrange yourself. We may not have these every week, but look for them from July until the end of season and we will bring them to market whenever we can.
